"Discipling today's generation to reach to world"
Students today deeply desire to make an impact on the world. They know that they can jump on a plane today and within a matter of hours be anywhere on the face of the planet making a difference. As Christians, we know the transforming power of the Gospel and its ability to change lives not only here, but also throughout eternity.
At Faith Student Ministry, we seek to disciple and train students to reach their generation today and effective the whole of eternity forever.
- Relevant Biblical Teaching
- Authentic Relationship
- With God
- With Others
People matter to God. Period. Furthermore, God has a tremendous plan for his people. It is because of these things, that we believe a student's personal relationship with God deserves the greatest attention.
FSM seeks to help teach students not only the fundamentals of the faith, but the importance of personal commitment of salvation, daily quiet time with God, the practice of Christian disciplines such as prayer and fasting, and the need for regular community with fellow believers.
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." -Eph. 4:2-3
Because people matter to God, they matter to us. This means we desire our students to live in a spirit of unity among each other as well as their classmates. No one is perfect and no church is perfect, but through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we can all seek to live together in unity.
Therefore, FSM seeks to create environments that are conducive to spiritual growth, conversation, and relationships.
- Parent Partnerships
In Deuteronomy 6, God has expressly given the responsibility of discipling children first to their parents. We seek to partner with Parents through two main functions: Equipping and Training.
FSM seeks to equip parents with the resources they need to successfully raise Christ-followers that will reach the world today and help fulfill the great commission.
In addition to being a resource provider for parents, FSM seeks to train parents in how to have meaningful spiritual conversations, provide effective discipleship within the family, navigate the difficult waters of today's culture, and fulfill the calling that God has placed on their lives and family.
We desire that parents be as involved in the spiritual growth and development of their students as they want to be. If you would like to participate
- Campus Ministry
- There are roughly 45,000 students enrolled in just the Shelby County Public School system. This number doesn't even include the private, home, and city school systems in our area.
- Today's Public School systems have become one of the greatest mission fields for our students to minister to and minister in. FSM staff seeks to be a presence on the school campuses every week through lunchtime visits with students, showing teacher appreciation, partnering with school administration to provide assistance through school events, and attending the numerous extracurricular activities on campuses throughout the week such as band concerts, football games, and student art exhibitions to name a few.
- We know that although it would be easier to retreat into our offices. We also know that being apart of a students life away from the normal church schedule can speak volumes to a student about how much we, and especially God, values them.
- If you are interested in having us visit your student for lunch, please feel free to call the church or email us with the student's school & lunch information.
We believe in the transforming power of God's word in the lives of students. We also believe that God's word has the substance that today's students need, but also what they truly desire.
For this reason, your students will receive sound biblical teaching to help encourage and grow them in their spiritual journey, regardless of their grade level.
We believe that a student's time in high school can be one the most influential times in their lives. For that reason, we also believe that being a part of a community of believers that are seeking after Jesus is the wisest choice a student can make. FSM (Faith Student Ministry) is committed to worship, personal growth, missions, and evangelism.
High School - Wednesday Night 6:00 - 7:15pm (Gymnasium)
Every Wednesday night we have a gathering of high school students (9th-12th grades), calling them to live for something bigger than themselves. Each evening begins with an inviting atmosphere where students feel comfortable hanging out with one another. Students are taught how to live an authentic life that really matters, as well as connect with others who desire to do the same. Ultimately, I'd like to see all students plugged into a small group on Sunday mornings but we see our Wednesday night service as a great door to walk through and be a part of our ministry. Students in high school can expect to encounter truth all throughout the year through meaningful service projects, worship, and retreats. I want each student to understand that their walk with Christ is up to them. I want to equip them with the tools for life that will affect them long after graduation
Middle School - Wednesday Night 6:00 - 7:15pm (Rooms 203-204)
Just like the High School ministry here at faith, the middle school students gather for worship and teaching. The night begins for middle school students at 6:00 in rooms 203-204. It is at this time that we seek to provide not only a safe environment in our culture, but also to create environments and events that are catalysts for your child's spiritual growth that will send them on a path of life-long pursuit of Christ and His will for the Kingdom. This is a great first encounter for new students to come see their friends from school and Connection leaders in an environment where they will not only have a great time, but be challenged with relevant biblical teaching to live out their faith every other day of the week.
As with the entire student ministry at Faith, parents are invited to visit and participate in the lives of their students. A Wednesday night would be a great opportunity for you to come and see what God is doing in the lives of the students at FSM.
How do I get my child involved?
The greatest entry point into the ministry here at FSM is our Wednesday night activities. We seek to create an environment that is fun and exciting, while also providing substance in teaching and relationships for middle school students. This time includes a worship band, relevant teaching on your students level, and sometimes a game to either kick things off or drive home a point of the message.
The Middle School meets upstairs in rooms 203-204 for worship from 6:00-7:15 PM every Wednesday night.
Sunday Connection Class
We have the greatest teachers you will find in the Memphis area. Our Connection leaders have a passion for students and love teaching them about the things of God.
Just like the high school, we all meet in the gym during three different times: 8:00AM, 9:15AM, and 10:45 AM.
During these times, the middle school students are divided by gender, and sometimes grade.
I look forward to your student taking the next step and joining one of our connection classes!
Throughout the year we have various events such as 6th Grade Welcome Weekend, Hayrides, River Kings Hockey Games, MERGE Mission Camp, as well as numerous other events. Our Connection teachers also regularly plan events for their individual classes
These are all great opportunities to provide informal environments for your students to build relationships with other students and begin their involvement in taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth from Bartlett, TN.
Small Group Discipleship/Accountability
Ultimately, we would like for your student to also be involved in a small group discipleship class.
These classes are usually no larger than 5 students with a leader and they meet throughout the week, depending on the individual groups schedule & availability.
Ideally, these groups are lead by the parents of the students, but we also have numerous teachers who are called to disciple the next generation and challenge them in their spiritual walks. If you would like to participate with us in discipling your student, please contact us via email or head over to the volunteer page on the student site (fsmbartlett.org)
